ABOUT THE EVENT
The Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter's Walk for the Homeless Pets is
the premier fundraising walk-a-thon for dogs and their owners to
benefit homeless pets. The Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter has been
open six years in April of 2009 and has helped rescue, rehabilitate,
and rehome thousands of animals including wildlife since its debut.
On August 22, 2009, we expect nearly 3,000 people, with or
without their dogs to walk the journey from Branford Point to the
Branford Green. The Walk will be a widely promoted, fun filled
family event with activitivies, games and contests to keep our event
schedule lively and entertaining.
For a minimum pledge of $25.00, guests will receive an official
event T-Shirt, Doggie Bandana, and Goody Bag.
ABOUT OUR CAUSE
The Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter has been helping homeless pets
across the shoreline and beyond for six years. Hundreds of animals
come through our doors each year and it takes a lot of time,
rehabilitation and vet care to place them into new homes.
We are so much more than a traditional shelter! We offer many
programs and services to educate, inform and inspire people to
take responsible care of their pets and to treat them with the
kindness they deserve. With the support from people from all over
Connecticut and beyond, we are helping to create a better
community for all.
Some of the programs we currently provide are:
- Low or No cost spay/neuter certificates
- Humane Education through schools,
seminars and special needs groups
- Rehabilitation to the most abused, neglected
and sickly animals
- Adoption counseling and basic training for
new adopters
- Lost and Found community Internet Board
- Rabies and Microchipping Clinics
- Pet Food Pantry for going through
hardships
- Education through orientation provided on a
weekly basis with Volunteer Coordinators
- Outreach Programs with Off Site Adoption
and Animal Care Fairs
OUR MISSION STATEMENT
Our mission is to provide excellent animal care, find good homes
for our animal guests, to promote responsible pet guardianship, to
work to end the overpopulation of feral cats in our community, and
to run a well organized, efficient shelter with a rehabilitation
through education philosophy.
